TROUP COUNTY, GEORGIA
INTRODUCTION
Located about an hour south of Atlanta, along the I-85 corridor, sits a community of about 30,000 Georgians. The City of LaGrange may be best known for the Nancy Harts, an all-female militia that protected the city during the Civil War and LaGrange College, which happens to be the oldest private college in the state of Georgia. In the early part of 2013, Geographic Technologies Group (GTG) was introduced to Jason Cadenhead, the Information & Technology Manager for Troup County E-911. Troup County and the City of LaGrange had invested heavily in GIS maps with time and other resources. Therefore, having a viable mapping solution was important to the success of the 911 Center. Troup County E-911 was using a different GIS mapping solution that did not provide the functionality and data access that was needed, nor did it have automated vehicle (AVL) capability.
In conjunction with PTS Solutions, James Kelt, Senior Solutions Manager, was able to show the functionalities of Vantage Points for PTS, and Vantage Points Dispatch for PTS. Vantage Points provided Troup County E-911 with the mapping solution that was needed.
Over the next several months, GTG, along with PTS, worked with the Troup County Emergency 911 Center to implement and roll out Vantage Points. When Mr. Cadenhead was asked how he would describe his experience working with GTG he said, “The staff at GTG is very knowledgeable about their products, and Esri’s desktop and server solutions. The support team identifies issues quickly and helps us work through them.”
Vantage Points allows for numerous data types to be consumed in one all-encompassing viewer. This makes it easy for a multitude of departments and users to integrate data within the single internal web-based viewer. With Vantage Points Dispatch, the dispatchers at Troup County E-911 now have access to a robust and easy to use GIS application that interacts with CAD software. Vantage Points Dispatch makes it possible for Troup County E-911’s CAD to display emergency and non-emergency calls, AVL, weather feeds, hyperlinks, and internal GIS mapping services.
The changes that were made at the Troup County Emergency 911 Center have allowed the Center to enhance its services and be better prepared to serve the local citizens. The Vantage Point tools for PTS allows Troup County E-911 to achieve its vision of GIS as the window into all data, and the simplification of its operations.
